Students and families have many academic enrichment programs, scholarship programs, and college readiness organizations to choose from. Only the PEP Program provides all this and more in a single, supportive, and cohesive environment.
PEP employs a holistic approach to prepare students for life inside and outside the classroom. Our multifaceted program equips students with essential academic skills for college success and the mindsets needed for personal and professional growth.
It employs academic coaching, social-emotional guidance, college and career readiness, enrichment experiences, community service opportunities, and financial support for higher education.
Academic coaches and tutors work closely with students, setting high expectations and providing individualized support from 7th grade through freshman year of college and beyond. Within the PEP House, students experience a strong sense of community. They treat each other with respect and foster positive relationships with peers, staff, coaches, and tutors. While pursuing their post-secondary education, students remain connected to the program by participating in career readiness programs, sharing their insights and talents in various PEP events, and visiting the PEP House often.
“The PEP program will support you in furthering your educational goals even if your family income is not enough to pursue your goals. Although the PEP program will help you, you need to put the effort in during high school and use the resources such as the tutors that the PEP program provides to give yourself a better chance at success in the future.”
Gustavo Morales, Alum
PEP can be transformative for the right students. Those most likely to succeed are achievement-oriented and community-minded. They are committed to continual academic improvement and personal growth and willing to step out of their comfort zones, embrace new experiences, and actively participate in opportunities.
To be eligible for funding toward their college education, PEP students are expected to meet and maintain high academic standards throughout their middle school and high school studies.
PEP staff monitors students’ performance by reviewing their report cards quarterly and evaluating them annually. Once admitted to college, financial assistance is contingent upon the student’s academic achievement and active engagement in their college career.
In addition to maintaining established academic standards, PEP students must meet community service requirements, fulfilling their hours in a group or individual setting through one of several local partner organizations and initiatives.
